There’s something about fall in Grey/Bruce that makes a drive a little more enjoyable. The fields are changing, the roads are quieter, and there’s always an excuse to take the long way home. After the busyness of summer, fall gives us a chance to settle into a different pace and think about how we want to spend the months and years ahead.

That idea of doing things a little differently is at the heart of our feature on micro-retirement. Instead of waiting until some far-off date to enjoy more freedom, this approach looks at ways to build meaningful breaks and mini-retirements into your life along the way. It’s an interesting concept if the traditional idea of working until 65 and then stopping doesn’t quite appeal to you.

Our Bucket List feature introduces a local musician who is fulfilling a lifelong dream of being on stage. It’s a great reminder that there’s no expiration date on pursuing something you’ve always wanted to do. We also take a trip down memory lane with the history of CKNX-TV, exploring the role this rural station played in connecting communities and becoming part of everyday life for generations of viewers.

We then take a closer look at ageism, challenging some of the assumptions and stereotypes that can come with getting older. And, because fall is a good time to explore what’s in our own backyard, our “In-Cider Report” takes us on a tour of local wineries and cideries.

So here’s to taking the scenic route, trying something new, and making the most of this season – and whatever chapter comes next.
